Wedding Wednesday: Would You Buy A Ring Online?

Travis and I picked out my engagement ring together in person, but now that we’re both on the hunt for wedding bands, I’ve spent a bunch of time looking at jewelry online.  Lots of sites allow you to order very specific, custom items over the web… but I’m not sure I can actually go through with making such an important purchase anywhere but in person.

One of the sites I’ve been browsing is Blue Nile.  They’re known for their low prices and great quality, so if I do end up ordering online, this is probably where I’ll end up.  Here are some of their wedding bands:

I’d love to have this band, but I’m pretty sure it won’t work with the low setting of my engagement ring.

I’m also a big fan of this simple, modern band.

They even have unique options for men!

I guess, ultimately, I could return a wedding band if I didn’t love it, but I’m nervous about potentially buying something this important without trying it on… what do you think?

    I agree with you. I think it’s difficult to buy something so important and expensive online without seeing it first. I would check it out online and go to an actual store that has the exact ring or something similiar only because what you see in photos is completely different from what you see in person.

    The middle band is simple, yet so beautiful. The squared off design would be great with your engagement ring. I think you need to try the ring on to be sure though. I would only buy a ring online if there was a really good return policy. That way you could be confident you aren’t risking anything.

    I bought a replacement wedding band online, after my wedding band was stolen from a hotel room! I think sizing for rings is very standard, so that shouldn’t be a factor, unless one has an unusual/in between size… A local jeweler could fix that. I wanted a ring that would take a lot of abuse. (I am a gardener, and don’t take REALLY good care of my hands.) I found Mokume Gane bands. Check them out. I really like them, unusual and practical, I think. No two alike.

    Ryan and I just wanted simple gold wedding bands. We tried them on in a jewelry store first to see which width, finish, and shape we liked best, then ordered them from overstock.com. They were reasonably priced and look great!
