  I usually go for hair down and try to wear a darker solid color top. They say light colored tops wash people out in pictures. I don’t normally wear much makeup so I just put on foundation and a bit of blush so my face has a little color at least. I think Tarah’s comment about trying to look like you’re not trying to look to cute is perfect. I like to look like I at least take care of myself but not like I think getting my license picture taken is a formal occasion. Good luck!

  I know this is too late to do you any good, Kim. However… My take on it is, definitely wear makeup to look your best — your everyday best, that is. (No cat eyes or Marilyn Monroe eyelashes unless that is your usual look.) Wear a bright solid color on top that you feel pretty in — I almost always wear red, but other people might go for pink, rose, turquoise or teal. If you love purple and wear it a lot, go for it. You want the pic to be representative of you, but you looking your best. It’s not that big a deal, but you’ll be looking at it and showing it to people for at least 8 years and probably longer than that. You want your hair to look pretty (not pulled back severely, unless that really works for you), and smile nicely. You Don’t want it to look like a mug shot or a passport photo.
