How-to: Lace nails!

First, I’d like to congratulate Marina, the winner of last week’s “hump day mega giveaway”!

And now, onto the most exciting beauty trend I’ve seen in a while…

A couple of weeks ago, we discussed Minx nails.  Well, I have another cool new nail trend to show you!  And better yet, I’m going to teach you how you can replicate this look yourself! Behold: lace nails!  Check out my inspiration from last month’s Tracy Reece fashion show:

Isn’t it a cool look?

Here’s what you’ll need to recreate it at home:

-a six by six inch square of lace in any color that appeals to you (black is my favorite)

-nail polish in any color that appeals to you (I used a light pink on my thumb and a bright purple on my other fingers)

-nail scissors

-clear nail polish

Here’s how you do it:

Step 1: After prepping your nails as you would for any other manicure, paint your first nail with the colored polish of your choice.

*Quick tip: It will be easier if you do this process one nail at a time… don’t paint all your nails first and then go back with the lace.

Step 2: As the polish starts to dry, cut a strip of lace that will fit your nail, with room to spare.  (Unfortunately, in the photo, you can’t really see the light pink nail polish I used.)

Step 3: Place the lace onto your nail while the nail polish is still tacky— this will help it stick.  Secure the lace by painting over it with a clear coat of nail polish.

Step 4: Wait for the clear coat to dry a bit, then use your nail scissors to cut the lace  along the edge of your nail.

Step 5: Paint another clear coat of polish, and move onto the next nail!

This process is definitely time consuming, but I think it turned out pretty darn well!  It’s not a super practical look for every day— I wore it all weekend and by Sunday it was fraying.  But if you’ve got a hot date or a girls night out, these puppies will definitely get you some attention!

What do you think of this look?  Is it something you’ll try on your own?  (If you do, send photos to kim@blendingbeautiful.com!) Are there any other cool nail treatments you’re super into?  Let me know in the comments!
