Guest Post: Pop of Color

Hello lovely readers of {blending beautiful}!  KC here from Thrifty Solutions for an Urban Gal.  I am thrilled and honored to be sharing with you some interior design tips about decorating with color.  I have realized that all of my larger pieces of furniture are neutrals, from my duvet cover to my couch, everything is a shade of white, beige, or birch wood.  I am moving apartments soon and have been on the hunt to find bright home decor to liven things up.  Unfortunately, painting the walls of my new place is not an option.  But, it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, and I am constantly drawn to the boring and blah.  I stumbled upon these photos that I thought were quite inspiring.  Each room is full of neutrals, but one key color is used as a pop of color.  I love this idea, and will be using orange as my “pop of color” in my bedroom, and a yellow/navy combo in the living room.

Below is my inspiration board for my new bedroom.  My duvet cover is white, and I am currently searching for a white Parsons desk, but I think these gray and orange accents will add dimension and depth to the room.

How do you use color to decorate?  Would you paint an existing piece of furniture, or buy a new piece to add color?  Have any DIY projects to share?

Thank you so much for having me at {blending beautiful}!  Hopefully these lux rooms have inspired you like they have me.  And I hope to “see” you soon over at Thrifty Solutions for an Urban Gal.
