Five months old!

Happy holidays, my sweets!  I hope you’ve been having a lovely time with family, friends, food and the like.  I’ve been meaning to post Hazel’s five month update, but we left for a family trip to Portland the day after Christmas and time has escaped me (what else is new?)  Anyway, here it is!

Our little smush is learning so much everyday and gaining lots of new skills.  She is SO CLOSE to rolling from back to tummy (which made capturing this photo quite challenging) and I have a feeling that she might be sitting up for next month’s pic.

She is also starting to make a few babbling sounds and lots of “ahhhhh” sounds.  She loves listening to her own voice— especially screaming and fake coughing.  She is smilier than ever and very giggly, but when she’s mad she is MAD.  We’ve got a passionate lady on our hands.  (Seriously, this girl has a set of lungs on her.)

We still haven’t cracked the daytime napping and I am resigning myself to the fact that I may not have a very good napper.  One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned thus far is that it’s not worth resisting your child’s natural tendencies… it just makes everyone more miserable.  And on the random days when she takes a longer nap, we celebrate and enjoy it as a little victory.  (Ironically, she has been napping GREAT in Portland.  Which has been awesome, but also a bit frustrating since it confirms that she CAN nap and that she’s happier when she does.)

Anyway, I hope you all have an absolutely fabulous new year!  I’ve been totally lagging on posting our “monthly favorites” and I’ve been getting lots of requests for them.  So my goal in the coming week or two is to compile my must-have list and share them with you. Keep your eyes peeled!

Nursery Tour

Ok, my sweets, it’s finally time for the big reveal :)  I’m so excited to share photos of our little girl’s nursery with you.  We’ve spent the last few months painting, DIYing, and putting together furniture and I think it’s officially ready!

Care to take a peek?

I already showed you a sneak peek of my DIY rocking chair project and our painted dresser-turned-changing table, but I am in love with these honeycomb shelves, made by hand by my super talented dad!

I think the best part about being done with the nursery is having all the little necessities organized…

We’re planning on using cloth diapers, but we got these compostable ones for the first couple months while we get into the swing of life with a newborn.  I’m kind of obsessed with how tiny they are!

I tried to keep the feel of the nursery light and airy, but to keep things interesting, I played with lots of different textures.

I sewed the crib skirt myself, but I think my favorite DIY nursery project was the mobile…

Also, how cute are the baby animal pictures by Sharon Montrose?

Overall, I had a great time putting this space together and I’m happy with how it turned out!  I’m sure it’ll adjust and evolve, but for now it feels good to have this big project checked off the to-do list :)

A Shower for Baby Girl

I think I’ve finally recovered from my baby shower this past Sunday… what a day!  LOTS of women, lots of beautiful details, and lots of love for our sweet babe.  The shower was held at my parent’s house (the same place we got married!) and my mom went all out with the girly cuteness.  She made all of the food and the majority of the decor herself.  Want to see some photos?

{the pom poms over the dessert bar were hand made by my mom!}

{guests left sweet advice and/or wishes for me and baby girl in this “bucket of blessings”}

{decorating the cupcakes was my biggest contribution… confession: this took FOREVER, haha}

{a girly shower wouldn’t be complete without nail polish party favors!}

{me and my sweet momma}

{in this photo, I’m wearing a special labor necklace created from beads brought by our guests… more on that in a future post!}

Now that the shower is over, it really feels like baby girl’s arrival is imminent!  I can’t believe I could give birth in as little as 6 weeks… yikes!!

(P.S. My maternity dress is from ASOS.)

We leave Italy tomorrow *tear*, but Sunday is my birthday and we plan to transition back into the real world by celebrating with brunch and a lazy city day.  It could certainly be worse :)  Plus, tomorrow marks the first day of fall (my FAVORITE season!)
