Instant Gratification Redecoration

Change is good. If you enter your living room or bedroom without even looking around anymore it might be time to give it a new look.  Redecorating shouldn’t break the bank either— with a little time, and maybe a little cash, you can alter your living space for the better today.

{via}

Pattern your Place: Frame scrapbook or wrapping paper for simple, easy designs that are cheap and come in a multitude of patterns, prints, and colors. You can also pick up contact paper (the kind for kitchen cabinets) in all kinds of cute colors and patterns. Measure the backs of your shelves and you can update the look of your bookshelves in any room by sticking a fun pattern in there!

{via}

Cultivate a Collection: Group like objects on walls or shelving for an instant theme. If you don’t have a collection, you can frame photos in similar frames, or visit a thrift shop and hang some colorful vintage plates or clocks in a cluster.  Whimsy never came so easily.

Furniture Reconstruction: It’s intimidating thinking about replacing your current furniture. So try an instant reboot! A little tired of your bedroom? Try waking up on another side of the bed by repositioning it and adding a new throw or pillows to change the most dominant color in your room. Sick of your IKEA living room? Alter the slipcovers and more with websites like Ikea Hackers, which offers innovative ideas for your Swedish furniture, and ThisisMyKea, which sells slipcovers and decals designed with your current furniture in mind.  Or visit O’verlays to add some pizzaz to boring bookshelves and dressers.

Paint it Black: Or paint it red. Or paint it zebra-striped! Without repainting an entire room, you can still change the details of a smaller space like a bathroom, by painting just the door or window frames.

Do any of these ideas inspire you? What do you to to refresh a tired room? Let us know your interior design ideas in the comments!

Have A Romantic Weekend!

Romance is in the air this weekend, my sweets! On Saturday, I get to spend the day doing hair and makeup for a beautiful bride, her family, and friends. Then Sunday is the season finale of The Bachelorette. My girlfriend and I get together every week to watch, and we’re planning on celebrating with champagne and treats. (Team Jef!)

But before we get to all that, let’s kick off the weekend with some fun links from around the web…

Sectional Love…

For years, Travis has fantasized about having a living room with a comfy sectional, big enough for snuggling and afternoon naps.  One of the major downsides of living in tiny SF apartments is that our living rooms require smaller-than-normal furniture.  In our new place, this is not the case!

Not only do we have room for the sectional we’ve always wanted, but we have a fireplace to place it in front of!  I’ve been daydreaming nonstop about quiet, cozy evenings in front of the fire… it’s making the un-fun parts of moving (read: packing) totally worth it.

Now we just have to find the perfect couch.  I’m discovering that it can be a struggle to find a sectional that’s not too contemporary-looking.  Check out some of my living room inspiration…

Are you a fan of sectionals?  Do you dream of having a big, comfy couch?  Are there any other items on your future home wish list?  (I can’t wait for in-home laundry!)
