Adorable Organization

Summer’s almost over which means we’ll all be spending more time indoors. But you can look forward to cozying up inside when your house feels super organized.  With the right tools and tricks you can decorate and make more room at the same time!

1. A warm welcome home. If your entryway is cluttered with everything from keys to phone chargers to spare change, create one spot where all of your things can collect in peace. Ikea has a great catch-all with a chalkboard (Kim and Travis have one in their foyer!) for thoughts of the day. This approach is great because you can keep organized with a list-ready spot make sense of it all too.

2. Pet smarts. Do you live in a Dog House? HGTV suggests that your “pet zone” be in the laundry room. However, my dog’s food has a cabinet above the sink.  Storing toys in one spot may seem like a no-brainer, but if you don’t plan ahead, leashes and bones can take over your place!  By keeping all of your pet stuff in a designated space you can keep track of what you have, what disappears the fastest, and enable you to rotate out certain toys so your pup always has something new and interesting.  Keep your eyes open for double-duty organizers: some feeding stations even have hidden storage inside of them.

3) Reconsider your containers. Drawers and silverware caddies can double as jewelry storage. Earrings hooked into framed screens keep accessories from piling on tabletops.  If your home is small, invest in floating shelves or nail a few milk crates to the wall to keep items from cluttering that valuable floor space.

Interior Inspiration: Bar Cart

There’s a little nook in our living room that Travis and I have decided to fill with a bar cart.  We bought a vintage metal cart at the Alameda Flea Market last year, which we used for dishes in our old apartment.  But now, we’re hoping to re-purpose it to add a little pizazz to our space.

I’ve been hunting around for bar cart inspiration, and here are a few photos I particularly loved…

Once we nail down the look, we’ll have to decide what to stock it with.  Travis and I love to entertain, but we don’t drink much on our own… any must-haves for the bar?

Do you have a bar in your home?  What do you stock it with?  Which of the inspirations above do you like best?  Share your thoughts in the comments!

Have A Beautiful Weekend!

This week has flown by, and I couldn’t be happier because this weekend is full of excitement!  The main event: Travis and I are putting on our wedding ensembles (or slightly tweaked versions of them) and doing a photo shoot with one of my favorite photographers, Susannah Gill.  Check out her lovely blog for photos of her latest work… I love how she captures sweet little moments between her clients that might otherwise be missed.

But before we jump into all that photo shoot fun, let’s check out some browse-worthy links from around the web…

I made this keychain last night at the California Academy of Sciences’ Nightlife!  (It was hosted by a craft fair :)

Do you schedule sex?

This before and after kitchen makeover is awesome… what an upgrade!

Love this Babushka carafe.

I can’t wait for Fall to begin so I can start wearing tights again :)

The best shade of blush for your skin tone.

Simple, beautiful bangles.

Cute birthday card tutorial!

I adore everything about this gal’s hair

Antique engagement rings are swoon-worthy, don’t you think?

This makes me smile :)

And follow me on Pinterest for more fun finds!

What are you up to this weekend?  Got any fun plans?  Would you ever do a second photo shoot in your wedding attire?  (Even 11 months after the wedding, like us?!)  Share your thoughts in the comments!

Instant Gratification Redecoration

Change is good. If you enter your living room or bedroom without even looking around anymore it might be time to give it a new look.  Redecorating shouldn’t break the bank either— with a little time, and maybe a little cash, you can alter your living space for the better today.

{via}

Pattern your Place: Frame scrapbook or wrapping paper for simple, easy designs that are cheap and come in a multitude of patterns, prints, and colors. You can also pick up contact paper (the kind for kitchen cabinets) in all kinds of cute colors and patterns. Measure the backs of your shelves and you can update the look of your bookshelves in any room by sticking a fun pattern in there!

{via}

Cultivate a Collection: Group like objects on walls or shelving for an instant theme. If you don’t have a collection, you can frame photos in similar frames, or visit a thrift shop and hang some colorful vintage plates or clocks in a cluster.  Whimsy never came so easily.

Furniture Reconstruction: It’s intimidating thinking about replacing your current furniture. So try an instant reboot! A little tired of your bedroom? Try waking up on another side of the bed by repositioning it and adding a new throw or pillows to change the most dominant color in your room. Sick of your IKEA living room? Alter the slipcovers and more with websites like Ikea Hackers, which offers innovative ideas for your Swedish furniture, and ThisisMyKea, which sells slipcovers and decals designed with your current furniture in mind.  Or visit O’verlays to add some pizzaz to boring bookshelves and dressers.

Paint it Black: Or paint it red. Or paint it zebra-striped! Without repainting an entire room, you can still change the details of a smaller space like a bathroom, by painting just the door or window frames.

Do any of these ideas inspire you? What do you to to refresh a tired room? Let us know your interior design ideas in the comments!
