How To Create Ombre Hair Color (I Tried It!)

We talked about balayage highlights a couple of months ago, which has become synonymous with the term “ombre hair color”.  If you recall, the idea is to fade your hair color from dark at the root to light at the ends.

You all know how much I love this look, and I’ve been dying (no pun intended) to try out this method of highlighting.  Unfortunately, I had no idea how to create a natural looking fade effect.  Luckily, I stumbled onto a new website called The Beauty Department, which had a tutorial on ombre hair color!  So guess what I did last night…

Unfortunately for you non-colorists, this tutorial isn’t helpful if you’re trying to achieve this look at home.  But take these instructions into your hair stylist if you want them to try out ombre hair color on you.  I used a manikin from school and followed the photo instructions above.  I think it turned out pretty well for my first time…

Cool, right?

How are you feeling about ombre hair color?  Would you consider getting it done yourself?

I’m loving The Limited’s new line of wedding jewelry… I’m seriously considering buying a piece to wear on the big day!  Check ’em out:

Twisted Pearls

Oval Stone Drop Earrings

Shell Crystal Flower Studs

Teardrop Chandelier Earrings

Mixed Stone Bracelet

Crystal Leaf Headband

Gorgeous, right?!  I’m thinking a pair of those earrings would be a perfect addition to my wedding day ensemble…

Getting To Know You: What Do You Love About Your Looks?

I think women spend way too much time talking negatively about themselves (I’m totally guilty of doing it!), so let’s take a day off from body bashing, and share something we love about our looks!  Will you join me?

Here’s something I love about myself…

My freckles!

I pretty much only have freckles on my nose, but I think they’re cute!  I especially love how they become more apparent in the Summertime.  In fact, there’s usually a specific day each year when my freckles “pop” (usually after I’ve spent a long day out in the sun) and it always puts me in a good mood!

Now it’s your turn: tell me something you love about yourself in the comments!!

A Techy Girl’s Dream…

I hope you all had a lovely weekend (and that it wasn’t as rainy in your neck of the woods as it has been here!)  Travis came home after work on Friday with the best surprise ever: two new iPad 2’s, courtesy of his super-awesome boss!

Needless to say, I have been GLUED to my new toy all weekend, and I thought I’d compile a list of must-haves for you other iPad owners (or for those of you who are considering one).  I’d also love any tips from those of you who are more familiar…

Here are the items at the top of my list:

-An awesome case. I have the cover from Apple, but it doesn’t protect the entire device (just the screen), so I’m definitely going to invest in a case that I can store my iPad in when I’m carrying it around town.  I love the one above from Joe V Leather!

-A screen protector. These are great for keeping your screen scratch and smudge free.  (Get ’em here.)

-Flipbook. Travis’ boss turned us onto this app, and I can’t imagine reading blogs without it!  You can load all of your favorite sites into one place and flip through them like your very own, customized online magazine!

-Instagram. This fun app allows you to upload, edit, and share photos with friends and strangers alike.  It’s a super fun way to document your adventures (even the little ones).

-iBooks. This app comes on the device, but is totally worth using!  I downloaded Tina Fey’s “Bossypants” right away, and I’ve been reading it all weekend.  (I really recommend it, by the way— hilarious!)

What’s your favorite techy gadget?  Do you own an iPad?  Got any good recommendations for apps or accessories?  Tried any of the ones I mentioned above? Tell me about it in the comments!
