A Day At The Circus!

Today is the hair show that I mentioned briefly in yesterday’s post.  Hair shows are over-the-top runway shows that are judged on a combination of hair, makeup, costume, and nail design.  This is the first one I’ve ever participated in, and our theme is “Cirque du Freak”.

I’ve been researching all sorts of circus images, and I found quite a few items that could totally be worn everyday as a fun, whimsical addition to your wardrobe.  Check ‘em out:

This red blazer from Forever 21 is super cute and circus-y without being over the top.

How clever is this mustache necklace from Etsy?!

I would definitely wear these back-seam tights from J.Crew… I love their old school vibe.

I don’t know if I could pull off these shoes, but I think they’re super adorable!  (Get ‘em at Modcloth for $65.)

Obviously, you wouldn’t want to wear more than one circus-inspired piece at a time (unless you plan on doing so this Sunday), but when used correctly I think this could be a pretty cool look.

Check back on Monday for images from the show!  And have a safe and fabulous Halloween!!

What do you think of these carnival inspired pieces?  Would you rock this look or is it a little too costume-y for you?  Have you ever been to a hair show?  This is my first one, and I’m pretty excited!

Cute Coats For Fall!

I know I didn’t do a Wedding Wednesday post this week (I’ve been preparing for a big hair show and wedding plans have been temporarily paused), but I thought I’d share a little bit with you all today…

Our engagement photo session had to be cancelled last minute, which was really disappointing at first.  But we’ve definitely turned lemons into lemonade because we’re now getting our photos taken in Central Park during our NYC trip!

Of course, the outfit I got for our California photo shoot is completely un-wearable now (unless I want to freeze to death!), so I’m shopping around for a cute coat to wear.  I already own a dark grey wool coat, so I’d like to change it up and get something colorful.

Here are some of the options I found:

Not only is this one of my favorite colors, it’s also one of our wedding colors!  Get it at Nordstrom (on sale for just $42.90!)

The girly ruffles on this Anthropologie jacket are adorable!!

Mod Cloth’s military-inspired coat is right on trend… and I love the purple!

Also from Mod Cloth: a green coat might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I am definitely a fan…

If ONLY I had $675 to spend on this amazing red number by Kate Spade!

Which of these pieces do you like best?  Are you into colored outerwear, or do you tend to stick with neutrals?  Have you purchased any cute jackets this season?  Tell me in the comments!

POLL: How Organized Are Your Beauty Products?

Confession: I have absolutely no organizational system for my hair and makeup supplies.  Seriously, nothing.

I wish…

{via}

Some of my makeup is in a drawer, but there is also some in my travel-size makeup bag.  I have hair products sitting on the counter and in the medicine cabinet.  Most of my styling tools are under the bathroom sink, but my blow dryer is actually in the living room at the moment…

Needless to say, it makes my morning routine very frustrating and often results in beauty products and styling tools strewn around the bathroom (sorry, Travis!)

I dream that someday we’ll have a nice big bathroom where I can really have a place to store each item in its proper place.  Until then, I fear this beauty situation seems pretty hopeless…

.

Do you have a system for organizing your beauty products?  If you do organize your hair and makeup supplies, does it stay that way permanently or does it become disorganized again?  (Guilty of that one…) Do you have to share a bathroom with your significant other/roommate/etc…?  Tell me in the comments!

What’s The Best Halloween Costume You’ve Ever Worn?

Okay, so I know that last week I told you that I’m not super into Halloween— and it’s true!  But I still love a great costume, so I want to hear about yours!

One of my favorite-ever costumes is the one Travis and I made last year: puzzle pieces!  (Bonus: the photo is up on Glamour Magazine’s blog!)

And if we ever have a reason to dress up again, I’d love to play “Garth and Kat” from SNL.

What’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?  Have you seen something super great on someone else?  Got any costumes you’d like to wear… perhaps this year for Halloween?  Tell me about it in the comments!  (Or send a photo to kim@blendingbeautiful.com!)

My Favorite Polish Shades For Fall

I love nail polish.  If I had unlimited beauty funds, I’d have an enormous arsenal of cool shades.  Instead, I’m forced to be picky and only buy the colors I have to have.  Here’s what I’m loving most for Fall:

I feel like this shade— Merino Cool by Essie— can be worn by women of all ages.  It’s sophisticated, yet edgy.

Regardless of the season, I think a sheer neutral is always a good choice.  Bubble Bath by OPI is gorgeous.

For a pop of color, try a dark turquoise like American Apparel’s Peacock shade.  (Did you know they made nail polish?!  So cool!)

And if you’re into super-dark shades (I so am!) try a dark grey or black that has a little shimmer in it.  (This one is Steel by Chanel.)

What do you think of these shades?  Do you have any favorite colors for Fall?  Do you follow polish “rules” and change up your colors each season, or do you wear whatever you feel like?
