Beauty Review: Maybelline Define-A-Line

One of the requirements for cosmetology school is to come to class with our hair and makeup done everyday.  Understandable, since we’re going into the beauty industry, but still frustrating when all I want to do in the morning is sleep in an extra fifteen minutes.  I’ve been looking for every trick I can find to speed up my morning routine, and I definitely found a helping hand with this great product.

Maybelline Define-A-Line comes in a pencil that twists to expose the actual eyeliner.  It goes on very easily and doesn’t require excessive layers, which saves on time and creates a clean, defined line.

Not into the super-crisp look?  The other end of the pencil has a small sponge for smudging— perfect for those early mornings, when drawing a straight line through bleary eyes is impossible!

And the best part?  This awesome eyeliner is just $4.49!  Try it out and tell me what you think!

Have you ever used Maybelline Define-A-Line?  What did you think of it?  Do you have another favorite eyeliner?  What products do you use when you’re trying to look good in a pinch?  Tell me all about it in the comments!

Wedding Wednesday: Invitation Inspiration

Okay, I know we’re quite a ways off from sending invitations (or even save the dates!), but Friday marks the one year wedding countdown, so I’m indulging my love of paper goods.  I found a bunch of cuuuute and creative invites to share— take a look:

I love how much this invitation says about the couple… I want to party with them, don’t you?

And this book of love invite would be perfect for some of my buddies from the Creative Writing department…

These kirro wedding invitations are the exact color yellow we’re using in our wedding!!

I’ve never seen a 3-D invite before— so cute!

And I am definitely swooning over this funky, modern looking one.

Are you a fan of any of these invitations?  Will you (or did you) send formal invites for your wedding?  Are you into the traditional style with pocket folds and r.s.v.p. cards, or do you prefer something more low-key?  Let’s talk invites in the comments!

Toughen Up With Fall’s Hottest Trend!

I’m kind of amazed that it’s September and we still haven’t discussed one of this Fall’s biggest trends: military!  I am oh-so-pumped about these pieces because they’re a little tomboy, and a lot sexy.

I’ve found a bunch of items to inspire you, but be warned: the idea isn’t to play dress-up and wear all of these pieces at once.  Pick one or two and mix ‘n match with some ultra-girly accessories for a super chic look.  Check ‘em out:

I love this herringbone workshirt from J.Crew

Accessorize with customizable dog tags from Etsy.

Kick some butt with these Boutique 9 shoes, at Macy’s.

This trend means backpacks are cool again.

These skinny cargo pants from Urban Outfitters are super sexy and tough!

And if you ask me, a neutral face and tousled hair are the perfect styling choice for this look…

Are you a fan of the military look?  Which pieces are your favorite?  Do you enjoy mixing them with girly accessories, or are you all about the tomboy factor?  Tell me about it in the comments!

Mini-Makeover: Bathroom Edition!

My parents are working every weekend to update their house for the wedding (thanks, guys!)  I drove down for a visit recently to help by updating their guest bathroom.  With a little paint, we really warmed up the space.  Check it out!

Step 1: Sand, sand, sand!  I had to remove the varnish from the wood, so I used a fine grit sandpaper and rubbed with the grain of the wood.  (If you’re doing this project yourself, make sure you go WITH THE GRAIN, so you don’t leave any visible scratch marks in the finished product.)

Step 2: Tape off the edges of the cabinet and add a coat of paint.  The trick here is not to over-saturate the paintbrush.  Just dip the tip of the brush into your paint color of choice and apply the paint in smooth, even strokes (once again, WITH THE GRAIN!)

Step 3: Go for seconds.  You’ll definitely need a second coat in order to get even color.  Apply this coat in the same way you applied the first one.

And that’s that!  Not too shabby, huh?  Next up: an update on the bathroom mirror! (I’ll keep you posted…)

Have you ever painted cabinets or other furniture to give it an update?  Inspired to do so after reading this post?  Tell me about it in the comments!

Have A Relaxing Weekend!

I have to say, I’m a big fan of these 4-day weeks— I can’t believe it’s already Friday!  I’m still getting used to this whole 45-hours-a-week of cosmetology school thing in conjunction with daily blogging, so while I’m putting together some fun posts for next week, I thought I’d leave you with a little weekend browsing.  Enjoy!

I am seriously craving some rainbow cake!!

Make your own recycled notebook!

This blog reads like a novel… tragic and beautiful.

I’m dying to try this recipe—yummy!

These photos make me want to give Travis a big smooch!

A great style tip for those of you who are more well-endowed than I am…

I should really work on these speedy arm sculptors for the wedding.

And if all else fails this weekend, play a little truth or dare!

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?  Have you found any links worth sharing with other {bb} readers?  Tell me all about it in the comments!
