Holy Cow! It’s A Cosmetology Overload!!

I thought I was prepared for a whole bunch of loot when I entered the Cosmetology building today.  I even brought a big suitcase to help lug the stuff back home.  I was so, so wrong.  When I arrived, I was greeted by this:

I can’t even begin to capture the sheer magnitude of beauty supplies with this photo.  This kit includes every hair, makeup, skin, and nail supply anyone would ever need and (count it!) eleven mannequin heads.  ELEVEN.  I guess I’m going to be cutting, dying, and perming a lot of hair over the next 12 months.

I had the joy of lugging all this stuff up three flights of stairs to my apartment this afternoon.  And did I mention that it’s over 100 degrees today and for some reason I chose to wear tight, dark jeans?  Yeah…

Still, I’m thoroughly convinced that all the effort (and money— yikes!) will be well worth it in the end.  I’m so excited to start the program and blog about it from beginning to end.  I’m sure I’ll be able to share some cool tips from the pros along the way, and I’ll definitely be documenting my successes and failures as I navigate through the beauty industry for the first time.

Stay tuned!

Have you ever been in a work or school program where you were required to purchase an extreme number of supplies beforehand?  Ever thought about cosmetology or esthetics school?  What do you think you’d like best?  What would you hate about it?  Tell me all about it in the comments!

Good morning, lovelies!!  I am oh-so-excited for today because I get to pick up my “kit” for cosmetology school!  The kit is worth thousands of bucks and will set me up for the program!  It includes all the hair/makeup/skin care equipment that I need for the next 12 months (like one of these cool mannequin heads!)

I’ll update with more info once I get the kit, so check back this afternoon for all the deets!

Let’s Stay In Bed This Morning…

It’s Monday morning, and if you’re anything like me, you wish you got to sleep an extra hour.  (Seriously, where did the weekend go?!) Travis and I are in serious need of a new mattress, which is super un-fun to shop for.  So I thought I’d take it up a notch and look for some cute bedding to go on our new bed.

Check out what I found!

I love grey.  LOVE it.  And this simple design from Macy’s is elegant, but fun.

This earthy look comes from Bed, Bath & Beyond.  (And the frame wall is pretty rad, too!)

CB2 is known for cool urban design, and this definitely doesn’t disappoint.

This bedding from Pottery Barn is more contemporary than I usually go for, but I love the warm, inviting color.

Which of these looks is your favorite?  Do you have as much fun shopping for duvets as I do?  Anyone else HATE buying things like mattresses or vacuums (another thing on our list— yuck!)?

Have A Lovely Weekend!

I am looking so forward to this weekend!  We have a lazy day planned for tomorrow, and a day trip to Monterey on Sunday.  I was thrown back into my full-time job this week, after taking some time off over the summer, so I’m happy to have two days to recover!

I thought I’d share some cool links with you from around the web this morning.  And I’d love to know what you’re up to once the work day is over!

I finally picked out my shoes for cosmetology school!

I still can’t believe that these flowers aren’t real

LOVE these creative cake toppers.

I want to hang a copy of this scratch-off map for our living room.

And for the office: a scissors print!

Tips on coping with a bad end-of-summer sunburn.

I’m not sure I’d ever wear a foot glove

What are you up to this weekend?  Got any plans, or kicking back and having a lazy day or two?  What did you think about these links?  Got any cool ones of your own to share?

Have a great weekend!

Hot or Not: Crayola-Colored Tresses

Confession: I am a recovering hair color addict.  Until about three years ago, I used hair dye to perk up my attitude and spice up boring Sunday afternoons.  In high school, I dyed my hair probably every 6-8 weeks… and I don’t mean touch-ups.  At one point or another my hair has been blonde, brunette, amber, black, pink, etc…

The pink was definitely fun.  I never dyed my whole head, though— the first time was just the lowest layers of my hair, and the second time consisted of a thick streak along my bangs.  It was an inexpensive way for me to feel independent during a time when I was still learning to drive.

This hot-hued trend has been making it’s way to a bunch of celebrities lately, the latest being Christina Aguilera.  Check out her orange streaks!

I’m used to seeing wild colors on the likes of Rihanna and Lady Gaga, but I was pretty surprised to see Christina rocking this look.  I don’t hate it by any means, but I’m not in love either.  I feel like it’s a little too young for such a well-established woman.

But my opinion is boring… what do you think?

Is  crayon-colored hair hot or not?  What do you think of Christina’s look?  Have you ever dyed your hair an unnatural color?  Tell me about it in the comments!
